About the Role

At OnTrade, we’re building a vertical AI platform for wealth management. Our platform brings together enterprise data, domain-specific intelligence, and AI agents to transform how financial institutions operate. Unlike traditional enterprise software that forces customers to adapt to rigid systems, OnTrade adapts to how each firm operates, enabling deeply personalized workflows and an agentic workforce at scale.

We’re looking for a hands-on technical lead to turn this vision into production systems for some of the world’s largest wealth management firms. You’ll work across the engineering stack, including data infrastructure, distributed systems, data ontology, backend, frontend, and agentic AI, solving complex problems with direct customer impact.

You’ll own the architecture and delivery of solutions tailored to each firm’s needs. You’ll work directly with customers and product leaders to understand their systems, data, and business practices, then use OnTrade’s platform to connect fragmented enterprise data and build intelligent workflows, dashboards, and AI agents. You’ll also turn customer-specific engineering work into reusable platform capabilities, making future implementations faster and more scalable.

What You’ll Do

  • Own technical architecture and delivery.

Work directly with our product team and our customers to understand their needs, design solutions, and take them from concept to production. Set engineering priorities, make architectural decisions, and own execution.

  • Solve complex enterprise data problems.

Integrate data across CRM, portfolio accounting, custodians, financial planning, reporting, and other enterprise systems. Reconcile fragmented identities and business definitions, establish authoritative data sources, and map customer data into OnTrade’s domain ontology.

  • Build across the entire technology stack.

Design and implement enterprise integrations, data pipelines, backend services, dashboards, reports, and AI agent skills, using technologies such as Airflow, Spark, and Apache Iceberg.

  • Build intelligent workflows and AI agents.

Use OnTrade’s AI platform, domain ontology, and agentic capabilities to automate complex business processes. Combine AI reasoning, deterministic execution, and human oversight to build reliable, governed systems that operate within each firm’s practices and controls.

  • Turn customer solutions into platform capabilities.

Identify patterns across implementations and build reusable connectors, abstractions, tools, agent skills, and deployment frameworks. Help the platform scale to new customers with progressively less engineering effort.

  • Pioneer AI-native engineering practices.

Use advanced AI coding agents and development tools to accelerate development, testing, data reconciliation, and delivery. Help define how a small engineering team can operate with dramatically greater leverage.

  • Shape the core platform.

Work closely with Platform Engineering to identify gaps, develop reusable capabilities, and influence the evolution of OnTrade’s ontology, infrastructure, and agentic systems. Ensure that lessons from customer implementations continuously improve the platform.

  • Help build and lead the Customer Engineering team.

Establish technical standards, engineering practices, and reusable implementation frameworks. As the company grows, recruit, mentor, and lead engineers while remaining deeply involved in technical work.

Who You Are

  • An exceptional hands-on engineer.

You have strong software engineering fundamentals and enjoy solving hard problems across the stack. You may specialize in certain areas, but you’re comfortable learning and building wherever the problem takes you.

  • Comfortable working directly with customers.

You enjoy understanding how businesses operate and translating ambiguous requirements into elegant technical solutions. You communicate clearly with both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity.

You thrive when problems are complex, requirements evolve, and the path forward isn’t obvious. You’re comfortable diving into unfamiliar systems, figuring things out independently, and making pragmatic engineering decisions.

  • A systems thinker and architect.

You can reason about complex data models, distributed systems, integrations, APIs, and application architecture. You know how to build reusable abstractions that accommodate different customer needs without creating fragmented codebases.

  • Excited about Vertical AI and agentic systems.

You believe AI can fundamentally change how enterprises operate and want to build the platforms, tools, and agents that make that possible. You’re interested in solving the real engineering challenges of deploying AI reliably in complex enterprise environments.

  • AI-native in how you build.

You’ve embraced AI coding agents as a core part of your development workflow, not just an occasional productivity tool. You use them to move faster across unfamiliar codebases, implement complex features, and improve testing, while maintaining high standards for correctness and engineering quality.

  • Strong in data engineering and modeling.

You understand that enterprise data integration is much more than moving records between systems. You’re comfortable reasoning about domain entities, identity resolution, data lineage, reconciliation, and consistency.

  • Rigorous about engineering quality.

You understand the importance of security, reliability, testing, and production operations, particularly in multi-tenant enterprise environments where changes can affect many customers.

  • A builder who wants to lead.

You want to own major technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and eventually build and lead a team. You’re equally comfortable designing systems, writing code, debugging production issues, and mentoring engineers.
